Positive psychotherapy

The method of Positive Psychotherapy was created by Dr. Nossrat Peseschkian, a specialist in psychiatry, neurology, and psychotherapy. Since 1969, he has been leading a private practice in psychiatry and psychotherapy in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Psychotherapy can be viewed as conflict-centered and resource-oriented short-term therapy. It has a broad scope of application. The method can be used as a therapeutic approach in clinical practice in psychiatry and psychosomatics, as well as in psychological counseling and psychotherapy.

At its core, the method of Positive Psychotherapy is supportive and accompanying, focusing not so much on the symptoms as on the healthy, actual abilities that have been overshadowed. In this way, the client/patient strengthens themselves in the fight against the illness or problem.

Positive Psychotherapy is founded on a deep belief that every person is endowed with all the necessary individual abilities to live a happy life. Everyone has access to inexhaustible life opportunities for personal growth and individual flourishing. It is conceived by the Creator that everything most valuable is hidden within us, like small seeds that mature throughout our lives. Peseschkian has said that a person is like a treasure trove of precious gems. One of the tasks of Positive Psychotherapy is to discover this valuable deposit and bring it out from the depths of the human soul. These natural gifts and talents will ultimately serve for a person’s self-realization. Fulfilling one's life mission is the foundation of satisfaction in life.

One of the important principles is the principle of the uniqueness of the individual. Life has no standards. The diversity and richness of the sources of human happiness lie in the ability to use and enjoy "what we have" at any given moment, rather than what "could be." The ability to see in today's reality what can make you happy, give you the strength to take a specific step forward toward your goals, and derive joy from it, is what makes us the creators of our own selves and bestows us with wisdom.

Positive Psychotherapy can become a way to balance life and become its Author. The positive approach does not mean interpreting life through "rose-colored glasses." A positive approach is the stance that is available, the given reality in every moment of life. Positive, in this context, means realistic and constructive, rather than naively "rosy."

Positive Psychotherapy, as a method, is designed to help a person avoid getting lost in the rapid flow of events of the era, to discover themselves, and to believe that just as a bird is born to fly, so too is a person created to live happily.
